What does “Evangelical” mean?
The term Evangelical refers to our commitment to the proclamation of the gospel and to the authority of Scriptures as being inerrant in the original autographs and the only safe and sufficient guide to faith and practice.
What does “Free” mean?
The term Free refers to our form of church government which assures that our local churches are free from a central controlling body. EFCA churches depend upon the active participation of pastors and lay people in the decisions and direction of the local church.
The Evangelical Free Church of Marshalltown was officially formed in March of 1991. We began as a small group Bible study that gathered for a few years prior to 1991. Pastor Bob Kosbau was called in 1991 to be the Senior Pastor and has served in that position ever since. From 1998 to 2000 Pastor John Nett served as our Worship/Youth pastor. Dan Lattanzi served as Youth Intern during the year 2001. From June of 2002 to June 2008 Steve Howe served as our Associate Pastor of Youth. In May of 2008 Steve Brant came on board as an Associate Pastor.
In August of 2001, the Lord opened a door for us to purchase the former Eastern Iowa Supply Co. building at 3111 S. 6th Street. After six months of rigorous work we had a place to call home. In 2005 we added a state-of-the-art youth room using 30,000 of the 36,000 sq. ft. of the warehouse we had purchased.
We are associated with the National Evangelical Free Church of America.
Church Family Fellowship
The Evangelical Free Church of Marshalltown enjoys Church Family fellowship in many ways. We do this through corporate worship, serving together, corporate meals, and once a year we gather at Hidden Acres for a weekend of fellowship. For more information on Hidden Acres click the following links.
